I just read a story about a woman in Spain
who had hypnosis intended to have the
results of Gastric Band Surgery.
She said she had tried every diet and every
workout plan, and none of it seemed to work
for her, so she decided to try the hypnotic
option.
Apparently it seems to be working for her.
She is losing three pounds a week.
There are a few things that come to mind for
me about this situation:
1. If she believed that the surgery was
completed, there is also the potential that
there could be some pitfalls that come from
when someone has the surgery. Anyone who
is in a hypnotic state is more suggestible
than someone who is not, so extraordinary
care should be made as to what the person
in hypnosis hears and experiences. In
addition, if one is mindful of any potential
difficulties from the procedure they might
also be addressed through suggestions to
help ensure a positive and healthful outcome.
2. If she tried every diet and every exercise
program, then the question that comes for me
is: is there something that hasn't been
addressed for her?
I had hypnosis for weight loss long before
I ever became a hypnotist. And, while it
worked, it only worked for a time. I suspect
a couple of things as to why it didn't work
in the long run, and I suspect that it had
a lot to do with the fact that I believe it
worked with my behaviors, and not the
underlying causes.
One just has to look at what happened with
Carney Wilson, and see that a procedure
like that might occur more like a "fix" than
a resolution.
Looking at oneself is likely to be uncomfortable,
and maybe even painful. But when those things
that are uncomfortable or painful aren't
addressed, or in some way released, they
may still live in the body, and the results
could potentially be any number of things from
a headache to extra weight, to any dis-ease in
the body you can think of.
It's always good to have options...and I think
it great for her that she investigated it.
Given the results, it certainly seemed to be a
worthy consideration. How awesome to see a
story that can show how amazing hypnosis can be.
As with anything, we don't always know what we
don't know. It is wise to move forward with
caution and questions and remember that all
opinions are formulated from perspectives. And,
since perspectives can vary, so can your "mileage."
If you have any questions about hypnosis, please
feel free to ask. You can also see a list of
over 140 things hypnosis can be used for in the
PDF section of JoLoPe.net.
Have a great day, and if you are available at

Perspective Radio: Pamela Glasner
This is a controversial conversation and,
as with any topic, there are many perspectives
and resulting questions. The above video is
one of 10 on YouTube. If the topic is of
interest, consider watching the others.
Note that the videos do tend to lean on the
sensational side. As I said, there are
perspectives, and to each his own. What works
for one may not work for another. However, I
believe having access to other perspectives
can be quite beneficial, even if it just
solidifies your own.
Some interesting questions to ask:
*Is it irresponsible for someone not to take drugs?
*What defines mental illness?
*Why would someone be given medication?
*What is the medication supposed to do?
*What if what the medication "treats" is something
that is something that is "supposed" to be expressed?
*What about side effects?
*and many others
I have an experience that I will be sharing on
my World-of-Perspective-Radio.com show with
@PamelaGlasner this coming Tuesday. There are
a few theories I have developed from my own life
and observations. We will be speaking about it
in the context of Pamela's new book Finding
Emmaus, and her extensive research to write
the novel.
I hope you'll be able to join us. To see more
information about Pamela, please visit her website,

Perspective Art: A Flower for a Sunday

ONLY USE WITH PERMISSION.)
This picture I liked before I did anything to it.
But then, when I did something to it (a bunch of
somethings, actually), I REALLY like it now.
I had Trey Ratcliff (@TreyRatcliff) who is a HD
photographer on my World of Perspective Radio Show,
and he was talking about how our mind views
things different than what we see in a picture.
(Don't have time for the full 90 minute show?
You can listen to excerpts here).
I have to agree, as so many times I will take a
picture of something so beautiful, and then afterward,
it just feels "flat."
I know some people are purists when it comes to
the idea of manipulating a photo. However, I
wonder if sometimes the manipulation does somehow
bring us closer to the memory we have of it.
I wasn't with @fishfire at the fair (see last
blog entry), but I suspect that after what I did
it somehow more aligned with what his memory
thought of the scene. I probably need to actually
ask him at some point.
What I do know, though, is that what he thought
was an "ordinary" picture became what he now calls
a "work of art." To me that says something about
the effect of the perspective of the work.
Makes me wonder where else that could apply.
Any thoughts?
I hope you're having a great weekend!

The Art of a Sale: A Radically Different Perspective
“A man's reputation is what other
people think of him; his character
is what he really is.”
(I found this quote on ThinkExist.com
Not sure who to attribute, but if
you know that there should be someone,
please let me know)
So much is made out of one's reputation. People say how
important it is to have a "good" reputation. However,
I think sometimes there is a problem with people confusing
another's reputation for who the person is.
Have you ever noticed that someone with a good reputation
may not be all that they're supposed to be? Or have you
ever gone with someone whose reputation was questionable
with good result?
Might it be possible to create a "good" reputation as a
means to manipulate or influence someone into doing
something? As I write this question, Bernie Madoff
comes to mind.
Anyone can say anything about anybody or anything. If
enough people say it, it is in writing, and in enough
places, it could even become "gospel." It is what
advertising builds itself upon.
When you hypnotize someone, the less likely they are to
be a certain way, the more you have to hit them over the
head with suggestions to try to get them to be another way
(at least if you are an ineffective hypnotist or a hypnotist
who doesn't know what they're doing).
It's kinda like how advertising works. You want someone
to do something they've never done before, so what do you
do? You shower them with it over and over. You beat them
into doing things differently. There are statistics that
will tell you how much you have to "go at" a person before
they submit (or in a nicer way, how many times a person
needs to be exposed to your product or service before
they'll be interested in buying from you).
A lot of what advertising does is sneaky. Collective *gasp,*
I know. What a surprise. However, the reason it works is
because we aren't conscious of the ability we have to screen
things out, and make choices instead of acting upon a
"suggestion."
Everyone has a "gut" feeling about things. Some more than
others, and some more frequently than others. The difference
I would contend is a combination of practice and trust. Those
who have the best relationship with their gut are the ones
who have learned to pay attention to the feeling, and better
yet, have learned to act appropriately on what that feeling is
saying.
I would suggest that the advertising and marketing businesses
would go out of business if - as a rule - we used our gut. We
wouldn't need benefits explained to us. We wouldn't need to
be educated on why we so desperately needed this thing someone
was trying to get us to buy. We wouldn't have to be exposed
to so much in your face advertising. If we were in touch with
our gut, we could check in - on anything - and make a decision
based on whether or not this thing was worth our investment.
Just recently someone bought one of my "love letters," but knew
nothing of why I was doing what I did, and hadn't read the page
I designed. So many people in marketing will say do it a
different way, and I'll get better results. However, I could
have said anything on that page, and still have made a "sale"
to that person (from what it sounds like).
Some people will even justify the manipulation, as it is in the
best interest of the person - for "their own good." I am not
sure how I feel about that, as manipulation is manipulation,
and how many people do you know who want to be manipulated?
Sy Syms says "An educated consumer is our best customer."
I love that statement, and the belief that stands behind it.
I want someone to come to me because they know it is
something they want and need, not because I have
convinced them of that fact. If you know what you are
doing, and choose it, our dynamic will be so much
better, and you'll get so much more out of it, than
if you are doing it blindly or are unconsciously driven
by my sales pitch.
Your intuition is IMMEDIATE. It doesn't need to figure anything
out. It doesn't need to be convinced, or sold to. When I speak
with anyone about whether or not they should work with me my
suggestion always is for them to check in with their gut, and
let me know what they want to do. I feel that it is just as
important for me as for them. If it's not the right thing for
someone, how could it possibly be right for me? I don't know
about you, but I have had some pretty awkward situations, at
best, when it's not "right."
Sometimes we may be blocked from our gut by things that are
happening, or have our attention. However, it doesn't mean that
it's not there to access. The sun, after all, is still there
on a cloudy day. (As a side note this is the type of thing we'll
be addressing on my World of Perspective Radio show
on June 25th with Janet Thornburg: Being in Touch with
Your Best Self)
In closing, just like products have reputations
through their advertising, and just like people
will have their reputations, it doesn't mean
that one, they are who and what they say they
are and two, even if they are exactly as
advertised or promoted, it may not mean that
they are what is best for YOU. And, that, my dear
reader, ONLY YOU will know.

Press Release: Dan Pavlik on World of Perspective Radio
How Do You Make A Dream Come True? Make A Movie About It.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Contact: Elizabeth Alraune
Phone: 818-584-1965
Email: info @ jolope.com

Los Angeles, CA, April 6, 2009
Dan Pavlik, Director, Producer, and Writer of the film Nominated, will be a guest on World-of-Perspective-Radio.com on BlogTalkRadio.com on April 16, 2009 at 6PT/9ET.
Dan has been a professional video producer for 14 years. By most measures, he has had a successful career, and yet he is risking what he has worked for by diving into the shark infested waters of independent film with the idea of a movie that he dreamt about two and a half years ago.
While he will be sharing his story, everyone has a "thing" that they wish they could do, might do, wouldda, shouldda, couldda done. As Dan says, “I may be the director of this film, however, I am also in the role of Director of my own life, just as we all are.” He notes that in the current economy, especially, it is important to see possibilities in spite of closed doors. In the world of film he, as the director, makes choices to make the best film possible, "and the choices I make aren't always advised, popular, and are sometimes risky. There are parallels to how I am in my life." We all have the possibility to direct our own lives, and he will be discussing the risks that he is taking in the context of having a life lived that is true to himself in spite of seeming obstacles.
Elizabeth Alraune, host of World-of-Perspective-Radio.com, welcomes Dan as a guest amidst a line up of other shows from an eclectic group of guests which have included Janet Thornburg (numerologist), Patrick Mathieu (The Bar Code Guy), and Greg Mooers (Life Camp). Ken Newman, who will be in the role of Blake Dunbar in the film also spent some time on the show recently talking about how important humor is EVERY day, and how living for the weekend is like living only 2/7 of your life.
About Nominated
This independent film will be shot in August 2009 in the San Francisco Bay Area. Pavlik is in talks with and/or seeking the talents of Dan Aykroyd, Mariel Hemingway, Willie Ames, Carl Lumbly, Brian Degan Scott, Brian Copeland, and Ken Newman. Perspective: Rainy Days and Mondays Always Get You Down?
Have you ever heard the song Rainy Days and Mondays
by the Carpenters? I woke up this morning to rain,
and that song entered my mind almost immediately.
I share this because more than once I have been
aware of the influence of music. A few years ago
there was a song by Pink Don't Let Me Get Me
that in particular caught my attention.
It is a catchy song. It also has lyrics that if
you repeat them, can tune into your own insecurities
about yourself, and reinforce them.
I get the value of music, poetry, literature, movies,
etc. It's great to know that others are having their
own "moments." Maybe we feel less alone. However,
there is also a risk that we may get caught
up in it, and even years after being exposed to it -
especially on a regular (or catchy) basis, have it
pop back into our consciousness.
I wonder sometimes if people were more aware of this
possibility, if they would still create works like
this, and/or expose themselves to them.
The last thing you need to do when you're feeling down
is dwell in that place. There is power in the
acknowledgment of how you feel. However, a continual
acknowledgment will have you likely sinking deeper
into the very feeling you would likely rather be
without.
A catchy song, is just that - catchy. It will catch
you in more than just the music. The more you get
invested in what you are exposing yourself to, the
more you will likely be influenced by its message.
The key is to start to pay attention to what you
are listening to and absorbing.
Our conscious minds have so little to say about things,
especially when we are overwhelmed. However, when you
are able to catch yourself, you are able to put the
breaks on. You can change the song in your head, stop
reading the news, turn the movie off, and replace these
things with something that you'd rather have in your
experience.
The Carpenter song gives some positive message, however,
for me it is lost in the refrain and title. I tend to
latch onto the most negative parts of the song. Maybe
that says something about me, I don't know. However,
I doubt that I am the only one.
The fact is, I LOVE rainy days...especially since I
moved to southern California, where it rarely ever rains.
I am working on getting that song out of my head, in
part, by acknowledging it and, in part, writing about
it here.
You may think that I am advocating a change. However,
what I am advocating is an awareness of what is going
on around you, which might be influencing you. Once
you have this awareness, you have the opportunity to
choose whether or not you want to change it. Without
it, the opportunity for change is greatly minimized.
One last thing, is this "true" information? Who the
heck knows? I always tell people to check in with
themselves when it comes to anything. Maybe your
experience is different than mine.
All I suggest is that you check in with yourself,
and observe what's going on. If you like what's
happening, great! However, if you are uncertain,
then perhaps it is worth considering a different
perspective.
Oh, one other last thing, LOL. How do YOU feel
about MONDAYS? This week I am going to have
Ken Newman of Magnet Productions as a guest
on World-of-Perspective-Radio.com. His message has
to do with enjoying ALL of life, not just the weekends.
The name of the show is Thank God it's Monday:
Living Life as a Comedy Routine (click link for details).
If you have the time, I hope you'll tune in. If not,
